FATE OF CULTURE" NOMANDICITY

In the
article “Fate of Culture: Nomandicity” Todd Gitlin explains the direction
society is going with the explanation of the Sony Walkman story. Which serves
as an example to how society is becoming more and more individualized in the
way we fulfill our needs. Masaro Ibuka was on a flight where he wanted to
listen to his own music, therefore developing the idea of the Sony Walkman an
individualized technology that could enable its user to listen to music separately
from others. The market boomed with this idea impacting society as a whole and
taking it into a more individual direction proving Mark Bauerleins perspective
that technology changes society every day. Another article that addresses this
is Roger Stahls, “Have You Played the
War on Terror?” The article is composed on information of video games that
eventually dehumanize people through their game-like environment changing their
thoughts about war turning it into gamification. Again, technology changing the
way society thinks.
